Dustin Hamman, of the band Run On Sentence

SEDONA, AZ – Dustin Hamman, of the band Run On Sentence, will play live in concert at 4:00 pm at the Oak Creek Brewery Sunday, August 8.  The Oak Creek Brewery is located at 2050 Yavapai Drive in Sedona.

Run on Sentence is on tour in support of their second album on Hush Records entitled “You, The Darkness, And Me” which officially comes out August 10th. Nick Jaina describes You The Darkness and Me as “an exploration of solitude and a reconnection with the Earth. The music is as direct and innovative as Beirut or Neutral Milk Hotel, but the
lyrical themes are unique to its writer, Dustin Hamman. He spent a couple seasons living on a hill in a vineyard, flying his kite in the soft breeze, watching the trees slowly twist toward the sun and this time away from scenes and society gave him the space to write about ‘life that doesn’t breathe.’

The songs on this album confront some of the starkest realities about living in this world: there is only you alone to take care of yourself, and that responsibility begins anew every day. But at the same time it is a celebration of the beauty of the world, of the simple delight of walking in the morning, of envying the life of an oak tree, of staring into a nighttime lightening storm and welcoming the excitement of it all.” Continue reading »

Irish Poet Kevin Geary will be one of the powerful poets at the Poets Corner on August 6, 2010.

SEDONA, Ariz. (July 28, 2010): On Friday, August 6, at 4 p.m., the air over Poets Corner at Sedona Arts Center will reverberate with the power of two poetic voices—Christopher Lane, Executive Director of NORAZ (Poets of Northern Arizona), and Kevin Geary, well-known Irish artist and poet.

Christopher Lane is well known to Poets Corner and Northern Arizona audiences in general—not only for his powerful words that have gained him a large and devoted following in this area, but also for his promotion of other poets and of the importance of poetry in all our lives.  He says his appearance at the August First Friday event “will be a bitter-sweet farewell as my family and I shove off for an adventure in Italy, Israel and Egypt.  But no fear, I’ll be back to host plenty of poetry events leading up to and during National Poetry Month in April.”  Continue reading »

“Tropical Fruit” original clay sculpture by Ken Rowe

(July 27, 2010) – Has Sedona’s recent hot and humid weather had you daydreaming about a tropical paradise? Instead of heading to Rio de Janeiro, take a “staycation” at Rowe Fine Art Gallery Aug. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. when sculptor Ken Rowe unveils his latest creation, “Tropical Fruit.” The bronze sculpture features a life size blue-and-gold macaw perched on a branch. Ken will take pre-cast orders for the sculpture and be available to talk about its inspiration. Though Ken is world renowned for his life-like bronze sculptures of majestic elk, mountain lions and bears, this is the first time he’s sculpted an animal found in warmer climes, making the piece highly collectible.

“The subject matter is very out-of-the-box for me,” says Ken, “but it’s proof that I will sculpt anything that strikes my fancy. I sculpted a study of this bird at a zoo in Phoenix because I was intrigued by its pose and position. I was inspired by the bird’s animation. Later, I found out it was trying to bite me!”

Ken re-sculpted the bird at his Sedona studio using a neighbor’s macaw as his model. It’s not unusual for the award-winning sculptor to create a study in the field, let the idea germinate, and then produce a final work of art. And if you’re fantasizing about cooler locations rather than equatorial retreats, Rowe Fine Art Gallery has you covered. The gallery will also showcase “Pika’s Peek,” a life size sculpture of a pika – a small chinchilla-like animal – that Ken created after a 17-day trip to Alaska last summer.

Rowe Fine Art Gallery represents traditional and contemporary southwestern painters and sculptors. The gallery, located upstairs in Patio de las Campanas near the bell tower at Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village, is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 928-282-8877 or visit www.rowegallery.com.

Sedona, AZ - Dry River Yacht Club and Some Say Leland will play live in concert at 7:30 pm at Studio Live, Saturday, July 24. This is DRYC’s third visit to Sedona. In ’09 they rocked out the closing set of Gumption Fest IV and then returned with Paper Bird to a packed house at OCB in November.

This is Austin band Some Say Leland’s first of what we hope will be many visits to Northern Arizona.  Studio Live is located at 215 Coffee Pot Drive in Sedona. Tickets are $10 presale and $12 at the door.

Tempe Arizona’s Dry River Yacht Club has been rolling into cities across the United States bringing their eclectic brand of gypsy western folk rock with them. Behind the amazing range of lead vocalist/accordionist Garnet, who already has drawn comparisons to the likes of Ani DiFranco and Bjork, the band utilizes a classical instrumentation that includes bassoon, bass clarinet, french horn, cello, violin, acoustic guitar, and assorted percussions.
